DJI video works but no controlUpdated 2 months ago
If your DJI video feed works but the drone does not react to your radio, the video link is working, but the receiver control link is not correctly configured or not active.
This can happen with DJI O3, DJI O4, DJI O4 Pro, DJI Goggles 2, Goggles 3, Goggles N3, DJI FPV Remote Controller 2, and DJI FPV Remote Controller 3.
Always remove all propellers before troubleshooting.
Common symptoms
You may experience:
- Video works in the goggles
- No stick movement in Betaflight Receiver tab
- Drone does not arm
- RXLOSS or NO RX warning in the OSD
- DJI remote is linked, but Betaflight receives no input
- Air Unit shows video but no OSD or receiver control
Step 1 — Make sure the system is activated
DJI Air Units, Goggles, and Remote Controllers may need activation before full functionality is available.
Please check:
- Air Unit is activated
- Goggles are activated
- DJI Remote Controller is activated
- Firmware is updated where required
- The correct DJI device mode is selected in the Goggles
DJI also recommends making sure the Air Unit, Goggles, and Remote Controller are updated before binding.
Step 2 — Make sure the battery is connected
Many FPV flight controllers and DJI Air Units do not fully power all functions from USB alone.
If you only connect USB to Betaflight, the Air Unit or receiver signal may not work correctly.
Please check:
- Propellers are removed
- Main LiPo battery is connected when required
- Air Unit is powered correctly
- Flight controller receives stable power
- DJI Remote Controller is turned on
- Goggles are turned on
Important: Never test motors or receiver functions with propellers installed.
Step 3 — Confirm the DJI Remote Controller is actually linked
A working video feed only confirms the Goggles and Air Unit video link. It does not always confirm that the DJI Remote Controller is correctly linked for control.
Please verify:
- Air Unit is linked to the Goggles
- DJI Remote Controller is linked to the DJI system
- Correct compatible remote is used
- Correct Goggles mode is selected
- Remote Controller firmware is compatible
If the remote is not linked correctly, Betaflight will not receive stick inputs.
Step 4 — Check Betaflight Ports
In Betaflight:
- Open the Ports tab
- Find the UART used for DJI SBUS / receiver signal
- Enable Serial RX only on that UART
- Save and reboot
Do not enable Serial RX on multiple UARTs randomly.
If Serial RX is enabled on the wrong UART, Betaflight will not receive receiver input.
Step 5 — Check Betaflight Receiver settings
In Betaflight Receiver settings:
- Receiver Mode: Serial-based receiver
- Serial Receiver Provider: SBUS
DJI Remote Controller input is normally handled through SBUS or SBUS_FAST depending on the setup.
Step 6 — Check SBUS_FAST / protocol matching
This is one of the most common issues.
If the Goggles are set to FAST protocol, Betaflight must also use SBUS_FAST.
In Betaflight CLI, this is commonly set with:
1set sbus_baud_fast = ON2save
If the Goggles are set to NORMAL SBUS, Betaflight should not be set to FAST.
The setting in the Goggles and the setting in Betaflight must match.
If the protocol settings do not match, this may result in:
- No receiver input
- RXLOSS
- Failure to arm
- Intermittent receiver connection
Step 7 — Do not randomly rewire or reflash
Do not randomly move wires, change UARTs, or flash Betaflight without knowing the required setup.
A drone configured for DJI SBUS may not work correctly if you simply solder another receiver to the flight controller. Changing from DJI control to ELRS, Crossfire, or another receiver system may require:
- Correct UART wiring
- Correct Serial RX port
- Correct receiver protocol
- Correct Betaflight firmware options
- Correct factory dump or preset
- In some cases, a Betaflight reflash with the correct options
Incorrect wiring or flashing may cause:
- No receiver input
- RXLOSS
- Motor issues
- Missing OSD
- Hardware damage
Step 8 — Check wiring and plug connection
If the DJI Air Unit is connected by plug or soldered wiring, check:
- SBUS signal wire connected to the correct RX pad
- GND connected
- Power connected correctly
- Cable fully seated
- No broken plug pins
- No damaged solder joints
- No loose wires
If the Air Unit was replaced, rewired, or modified, the factory configuration may no longer match the hardware.
Step 9 — Check Betaflight Receiver tab
After saving all settings:
- Remove propellers
- Connect USB
- Connect the main battery if required
- Turn on Goggles
- Turn on DJI Remote Controller
- Open Betaflight Receiver tab
- Move the sticks
You should see channel movement for:
- Roll
- Pitch
- Yaw
- Throttle
If channels move incorrectly, check the channel map and radio mode.
Step 10 — If the drone still does not arm
If receiver input works but the drone still does not arm, check the Betaflight arming flags.
Common arming blocks include:
- RXLOSS
- THROTTLE
- ANGLE
- MSP
- FAILSAFE
- GPS
If Betaflight shows RXLOSS, the receiver signal is still not correctly detected.
